Teacher Aide Appreciation Week
This week is Teacher Aide Appreciation Week. This week we take the opportunity to recognise the valuable contributions teacher aides make in supporting teaching, learning and our school community and the vital role they all play in building a better & brighter Berserker. Thank you to our school community who have supported and assisted in helping us celebrate our amazing team of teacher aides. I personally, am very thankful for all that they do for our students, teachers and wider community.

It was great to see so many students having a fantastic afternoon with our Top Oval exploding with colour. Thank you to everybody who helped fundraise for the event and support our school to have better and brighter opportunities.

2026 Prep Enrolment & Transition
Our enrolment process for Prep 2026 has begun. We would like to welcome any children who were born between the 1st July, 2020 to 30th June, 2021. If your child was born in this time, they are required to start Prep next year.
In Queensland, Prep is a compulsory year of schooling and will provide the foundation for your child’s education. It is important that we enrol students for Prep 2026 as early as possible, as this will enable us to plan for next year. There will be a series of transition sessions planned for our new students, these will include important information for starting school and will also play an important role in preparing your child for Prep.
These transition sessions will be held on:
- 29th October (9am-10am)
- 5th November (9am-10am)
- 12th November (9am-10am)
- 19th November (9am-10am)
If you have a child who is starting Prep in 2026, please contact the office on 4999 0333 for an enrolment pack and we will be in touch to book an enrolment interview. Alternatively, please call the office to book.
2026 Prep enrolments completed by Wednesday 19th November will be eligible for a free uniform pack inclusive of a school shirt and hat valued at $50.
We look forward to meeting with you soon.
Attendance
Is your child at school? Everyday counts!
Our school attendance is currently sitting at 87.2% with a strong focus on reaching 90%. Friday has become our lowest attending day, and we are focussing on lifting the attendance rate on this day.
Current average daily attendance percentages:
Parents and caregivers must send children to school every school day under Queensland law unless there is an acceptable reason such as:
• illness
• doing work experience
• competing in school sporting events.
If your child is going to be absent from school, you must let the school know why the absence has occurred within two school days of their return. If possible, it is best to advise the school beforehand.
Avoid keeping your child away from school for reasons such as:
• birthdays
• shopping
• visiting family and friends
• if they sleep in
• looking after other children
• minor check-ups or care, such as haircuts.
Routine medical or other health appointments should be made either through our school-based nurse practitioner (Monday), before or after school or during the school holidays.
Establishing good routines around school can assist with regular school attendance. These include:
• have a set time to go to bed
• have a set time to get out of bed
• have uniform and school bag ready the night before
• have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
• set a time for daily homework activities
• speak about school positively
• send your child to school every school day including their birthday and the last day of term from Prep.
If you are experiencing difficulty in sending your child to school, we are here to help. Contact us today for advice and support.

PBL: Positive Behaviour for Learning Focus
Berserker Street SS will continue to be a PBL school in 2025. This will allow us to continue to explicitly teach and reward positive behaviour for learning with a whole school approach. Each week our students are taught a school wide lesson on a particular focus.
Our school expectations are:
• We are safe
• We are respectful
• We are responsible
• We are learners.
PBL Focus Week 8&9 – We are learners – I am ready to learn I try my best!
With assessment demands picking up across the school the PBL team felt it was a great time to focus on our expectation of We are learners!
· I know what ready to learn looks like
· I do my work to the best of my ability!
· I try my best!!!! I have a red-hot go!
· I actively participate in my learning – I try hard.
· I ask for help when I’m having difficulty.
· I am respectful of our learning environment
· I am brave!
· I ask for a challenge if the work is too easy.
· I share my ideas with my classmates and teacher.
· I ask for help when I need it.
· I am a positive member of our classroom
Berserker Bucks
Students are rewarded for positive behaviour choices with our whole school universal rewards known as Berserker Bucks. Each term students have the opportunity to reach Berserker Bucks milestones with incentives on our rewards day for those who reach our Gold benchmark. Berserker Bucks will change colour each term and this year we have raised the bar with our students blowing expectations out of the water last year. Each Term students who receive their gold award will be eligible to participate in a better and brighter event. Term 3 collection has now closed as of today with Term 4 count already underway . This Term we have red Berserker bucks worth 1 point and Silver Berserker Bucks worth 5.
Term 3 PBL Better & Brighter Day – Sports Expo
Term 3 Gold reward – Mini-Olympics!
Term 4 PBL Gold – P-Y2 Kershaw Gardens Excursion and Y3-6 Northside pool excursion. (Costs covered by school)
Platinum award (Gold every Term) – Excursion to the movies (Costs covered by school)
Bronze – 100 Berserker Bucks

Children can also earn extra Berserker Bucks by using our school wide focus word of the week on Wednesday and Friday with school leadership and every day with teachers and teacher aides.
