Attendance
Is your child at school? Every day counts!
Our school attendance is currently sitting at 87.2% with a strong focus on reaching 90%.
Current average daily attendance percentages:
Regular school attendance
Parents and caregivers must send children to school every school day under Queensland law unless there is an acceptable reason such as:
- illness
- doing work experience
- competing in school sporting events.
If your child is going to be absent from school, you must let the school know why the absence has occurred within two school days of their return. If possible, it is best to advise the school beforehand.
Avoid keeping your child away from school for reasons such as:
- birthdays
- shopping
- visiting family and friends
- if they sleep in
- looking after other children
- minor check-ups or care, such as haircuts.
Routine medical or other health appointments should be made either through our school-based nurse practitioner (Monday), before or after school or during the school holidays.
Establishing good routines around school can assist with regular school attendance. These include:
- have a set time to go to bed
- have a set time to get out of bed
- have uniform and school bag ready the night before
- have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
- set a time for daily homework activities
- speak about school positively
- send your child to school every school day including their birthday and the last day of term from Prep.
If you are experiencing difficulty in sending your child to school, we are here to help. Contact us today for advice and support.
Semester One Reporting
In Week 10 of this term, Semester 1 report cards will be distributed. We will again be emailing digital report cards directly to parent/caregivers. If you have not already, then I thank you for updating your details along with a current email address (if changed) to receive Semester 2 report cards. Contact details can be updated at our Front Office.
If you wish to still receive a paper copy of your child’s report card then I request you communicate this to the school office.
Athletics
Our senior students will participate in Field Events (High jump, long jump and shot put) this Monday 16th June. They will compete in appropriate age groupings (9-13yo). Our whole school athletics carnival will be held on Tuesday 17th June.
This event will have an emphasis on fun, participation and sportsmanship with students earning points for their house by demonstrating these elements. Throughout the day we will hold a range of running events including sprints and long-distance events. Students in the junior school will also participate in ball game events. Students will have the opportunity to earn points for their house by simply joining in and having a great time as well as being competitive.
Students turning 10, 11 and 12 this year may have the opportunity to represent our school at the Rockhampton District Athletics Carnival next term on the back of their results from the day.
Students will be encouraged to wear their house colours in the highly contested competition of our 4 sports houses. They will also need a water bottle and obviously a hat.
Griffin – Green, Mahoney – Blue, Steven – Red, Wilkinson – Yellow.
Parents, carers and family members are welcome to join us for the event. We will be holding a meal deal for our students which will also be required to be pre-ordered for catering purposes (due Monday 16th June). These order forms have been sent home separately. The P&C will also be operating a canteen from the Stadium Kitchen and we encourage families to purchase from the menu on this day. If you are also available to assist in lending a hand in the kitchen on the day, this would be greatly appreciated and thank you for letting this be known to tuck-shop staff.
An overview of the day has been sent home with approximate timelines.
Go Steven!

PBL: Positive Behaviour for Learning Focus
Berserker Street SS will continue to be a PBL school in 2025. This will allow us to continue to explicitly teach and reward positive behaviour for learning with a whole school approach. Each week our students are taught a school wide lesson on a particular focus.
Our school expectations are:
• We are safe
• We are respectful
• We are responsible
• We are learners.
Week 8 & 9 – Be a good sport
As we approach our sports carnival it is important, we explicitly teach sportsmanship.
• Play by the rules
• Rules keep the game fun, fair & safe
• Be patient – take turns
• Encourage each other – cheer them on such as great job, you can do it or good try
• Respect the opposition - Shake hands/fist pump at the end
• Try your best – don’t give up!
• It doesn’t matter if you win
• Have a positive attitude! Have fun!
Berserker Bucks
Students are rewarded for positive behaviour choices with our whole school universal rewards known as Berserker Bucks. Each term students have the opportunity to reach Berserker Bucks milestones with incentives on our rewards day for those who reach our Gold benchmark. Berserker Bucks will change colour each term and this year we have raised the bar with our students blowing expectations out of the water last year. Each Term students who receive their gold award will be eligible to participate in a better and brighter event. Term 2 collection has now completed with Term 3’s count starting today. This Term we have yellow berserker bucks worth 1 point and pink Berserker Bucks worth 5.
Term 2 PBL Better & Brighter Day – Circus Spectacular
Term 2 Gold reward – Daylight Disco and Pizza!
Bronze – 100 Berserker Bucks
Silver – 150 Berserker Bucks
Gold – 200 Berserker Bucks
A platinum award is presented to students at the end of Term 4 for those students who have received their Gold award in every term of the school year. This year our Platinum award will consist of an excursion to the movies with the cost covered by the school.
Children can also earn extra Berserker Bucks by using our school wide focus word of the week on Wednesday and Friday with school staff.
To promote further incentive the highest earning student in each cohort will be invited to a pizza party with the principal.
