Conclusion of Term 1
Today marks the conclusion of Term 1, although a few wet days to finish it has been a strong start across our school over the last 10 weeks. Term 2 will resume on Tuesday 22nd April with Easter concluding the school holiday period. I trust our school community will have a happy and safe holiday period and I look forward to reconnecting with everybody after the break.
Deputy Principal Position
We welcome Mrs Emma Keyes to the Deputy Principal role who will officially commence from the beginning of Term 2, Tuesday 22nd April. Mrs Keyes has had the opportunity to engage with our school setting on Thursday & Friday. Thank you to everybody for connecting with Emma and making her feel welcome as she adjusts herself with The Berserker Way.
Pedagogy Coach:
Our Head of Pedagogy Col Hehir will unfortunately not be continuing with us next term. Thank you to Ms Hehir for your time and support across our school during Term 1. It will be unfortunate not having her in the role moving forwards due to being recalled back to her substantive position at Mt Morgan SS. We wish you all the best for the future.

PBL: Positive Behaviour for Learning Focus
Berserker Street SS will continue to be a PBL school in 2025. This will allow us to continue to explicitly teach and reward positive behaviour for learning with a whole school approach. Each week our students are taught a school wide lesson on a particular focus.
Our school expectations are:
• We are safe
• We are respectful
• We are responsible
• We are learners.
Week 9 & 10: I am responsible
· I know what it means to be responsible
· I know how to make responsible choices in my classroom
· I know how to make responsible choices in the playground
· I know I am responsible for my actions (I am in charge of my behaviour. I think before I act. I listen to adults when directed. I am responsible for following school rules; hands off, feet – sticks and stones stay on the ground.)
· I know I am responsible for my words (I control what I say. It is important to use school talk, and talk friendly or firmly when I need to. I choose my words wisely to make others feel good.)
· I know I am responsible for my emotions. (I know what to do when I get angry or upset. I am responsible for ‘how I feel’ not controlling ‘how I act’. I can help others when I am in a good mood. I try my best to be Better and Brighter Every Day!)
PBL Focus: Term 2 Week 1 & 2 - I follow school rules and expectations
Expectations: We are safe; We are respectful; we are responsible, we are learners.
Rules/Common language across our school:
Right place, right time!; Hands off! Feet off!; School talk!; Respond correctly when directed by adults. Ready to learn! No hat – No play! Calm classroom, Calm school; Use the Berserker 5.
Berserker Bucks
Students are rewarded for positive behaviour choices with our whole school universal rewards known as Berserker Bucks. Each term students have the opportunity to reach Berserker Bucks milestones with incentives on our rewards day for those who reach our Gold benchmark. Berserker Bucks will change colour each term and this year we have raised the bar with our students blowing expectations out of the water last year. Each Term students who receive their gold award will be eligible to participate in a better and brighter event. Term 2 collection has commenced!
Term 2 PBL Better & Brighter Day – Circus Spectacular
Term 2 Gold reward – Daylight Disco and Pizza!
Bronze – 100 Berserker Bucks
Silver – 150 Berserker Bucks
Gold – 200 Berserker Bucks
A platinum award is presented to students at the end of Term 4 for those students who have received their Gold award in every term of the school year. This year our Platinum award will consist of an excursion to the movies with the cost covered by the school.
Children can also earn extra Berserker Bucks by using our school wide focus word of the week on Wednesday and Friday with school staff.
