Principal's Report

Welcome back to our final Term for 2025. It has been extremely pleasing to see our students engaged and classrooms offering highly appealing lessons to begin the term.

Students will be bringing home curriculum letters with an outline of what will be taught this term, key information that relates to each class and an assessment schedule to assist families with further understanding of what’s happening with your child’s learning. Keep an eye out on bags for this important information.

Term 4 is always extremely busy, and I thank our community for taking the time to stay informed with lots of events occurring throughout the term as we move towards the conclusion of another school year.

Better & Brighter Carnival

Our P&C will be holding our 2025 Better and Brighter Carnival on Saturday 25th October from 4pm-8:00pm The event will be held at our Stadium, Top oval and surrounding areas with access from Charles Street.

Come and join us for a fun filled night for the whole family. Rides, food options, heaps of market stalls and lots of novelty activities will all be available as we celebrate our whole school community as we continue to build a Better & Brighter Berserker!

We will also have a fireworks display this year thanks to the support of the Frenchville Sports Club offering sponsorship towards this entertainment for our school community.

We are certain it will be bigger than last year! We look forward to seeing you come along to support our school.

It’s not too late to come along and lend a hand or help our dedicated P&C on the night even if it is for half an hour this would be greatly appreciated.

Tuckshop

On the holidays our tuckshop was targeted in a break and enter which was inclusive of an arson attack. We were extremely fortunate that the damage was minor in perspective of our school site. Unfortunately, the tuckshop was significantly impacted by fire and smoke damage.  The P&C are working behind the scenes alongside the school to rectify replacement of appliances, stock and restoration of the tuckshop itself. This will take time, and we thank you for your patience, flexibility and ongoing support as we work towards rectifying this issue. The tuckshop remains operational from the Stadium kitchen and ongoing support from our community is vital during this difficult time. A massive thank you goes out to our P&C who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to overcome this obstacle.

2026 Prep Enrolment & Transition

Our enrolment process for Prep 2026 has begun. We would like to welcome any children who were born between the 1st July, 2020 to 30th June, 2021. If your child was born in this time, they are required to start Prep next year.

In Queensland, Prep is a compulsory year of schooling and will provide the foundation for your child’s education. It is important that we enrol students for Prep 2026 as early as possible, as this will enable us to plan for next year. There will be a series of transition sessions planned for our new students, these will include important information for starting school and will also play an important role in preparing your child for Prep.

These transition sessions will be held on:

- 29th October (9am-10am)

- 5th November (9am-10am)

- 12th November (9am-10am)

- 19th November (9am-10am)

If you have a child who is starting Prep in 2026, please contact the office on 4999 0333 for an enrolment pack and we will be in touch to book an enrolment interview. Alternatively, please call the office to book.

2026 Prep enrolments completed by Wednesday 19th November will be eligible for a free uniform pack inclusive of a school shirt and hat valued at $50.

We look forward to meeting with you soon.

School Opinion Survey Data:

Our 2025 School Opinion survey report was received this week and was again full of positive feedback. This is inclusive of student, parent and staff voice with an increase in participation in all 3 groups and a total of 167 responses received (52 parents; 73 Yr 5&6 students; 42 staff)

It is pleasing to note that we are averaging well above 80% satisfaction or higher in all concepts for all stakeholders. Our data sets also average above the trend of similar school type, CQ region and the state across the board.

Highlights from the report with common items and concepts:

As always, I am extremely thankful for those people who took the time to complete their school opinion survey to provide a clear line of sight of what we are doing well and areas on where we can improve. As principal, I value this feedback, and I am extremely excited about this report with such positive results about our school setting.

Planning for 2026

If your circumstances are changing in 2026 or you know of a family looking to enrol then I thank you for notifying the school office in readiness for the new school year and class planning.

World Teachers Day – Week 4

Queensland celebrates World Teacher’s Day on Friday 31st October. Our teachers do an amazing job across our school on a daily basis. I hope you will take the time and help me celebrate the incredible work and dedication they put into student learning at Berserker Street SS to create Better and Brighter learning opportunities.

Attendance

Why does school attendance matter?

Regular school attendance gives students a better chance at life. Students achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day because:

▪️They have increased access to learning opportunities.

▪️They maintain friendships

▪️They stay connected to the curriculum progression

▪️They develop self-efficacy as a learner

▪️They have better long-term life outcomes.

There are school staff available to support you with improving your child’s regular attendance and to also support your family. Our school offers multiple supports to help remove barriers to your child attending school which is inclusive of providing food, school supplies, uniform items and now a health practitioner to support with illness. We can also refer you to external agencies to support your family.

We are here to help and work with you. We encourage you to contact us on 49 990 333 if you require further support or information.

Remember - Attendance is compulsory! Each parent of a child who is of compulsory school age has the legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attends school on every school day for the educational program in which the child is enrolled, unless the parent has a reasonable excuse (explained). Parents may be prosecuted if they do not fulfil these legal obligations.
