Principal's Report
NAIDOC:
Last Thursday, our students had a great morning participating in activities to celebrate First Nations culture. A massive thank you to our CEC Mr Mitchell and our school elders Uncle Billie and Aunty Venita for a fantastic celebration.
The activities were engaging, the food delicious and our deadly dancers did a great job performing for our school community. It was also great to see community engagement. Thank you to everybody who assisted in some way during the day.
CQ RELT Visit
Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a school visit from the Central QLD Regional Executive Leadership team which consisted of our Regional Director, Sue Dalton accompanied by four School Supervisors.
The visit was to see firsthand the work we have completed in strategic school improvement supported by improved student performance. The recognition from the team about a consistent culture of learning with calm and engaging classrooms was relentless. Students and staff displayed the high-quality teaching and learning that we have come to know and appreciate across our school. Our students were friendly and excited to show off the Berserker way.
I am extremely proud to lead to this school community, enormously grateful for what we have built and everything our staff, students and community do to make our school better & brighter every day! We should all be proud of our students, staff and our Berserker way!
Book Week Dress up parade
Our annual Book Week celebration was held earlier in the week, and it was great to see our school community "Book an Adventure!". Thank you for everybody who got into character for our parade.
School Performance
The ‘It’s a Mad World’ performance takes place this on Wednesday 27th August. The whole school performance will commence promptly at 12:20pm and end at 1:15pm. This performance is free to all students with the school covering the cost of the performance.
Outside School Hours Care – Important update
The procurement/tender process for Outside School Hours Care has now been completed for Berserker Street SS. The successful appointment is ‘After the bell’. After The Bell Australia will be providing Before School Care (based at Berserker), After School Care (based at Berserker) and Vacation Care (based at Glenmore SS) to the school community. The commencement date of their service will be the 7th of October 2025. Communication about their service and how to enrol is located in this week’s newsletter with information also being emailed home. I would like to thank PCYC for their service over the last few years and for their time supporting our school community.
North-side Cluster Collegial Moderation
Next week, our teaching staff will participate in the North-side Cluster Schools collegial Moderation process. This professional opportunity will provide our teachers the opportunity to moderate work samples to confirm judgments when marking student work alongside colleagues from other schools. This is an important process to ensure our judgements at Berserker are consistent with schools across the state. This event will occur after school.
2026 Prep Enrolment & Transition
Our enrolment process for Prep 2026 has begun. We would like to welcome any children who were born between the 1st July, 2020 to 30th June, 2021. If your child was born in this time, they are required to start Prep next year.
In Queensland, Prep is a compulsory year of schooling and will provide the foundation for your child’s education. It is important that we enrol students for Prep 2026 as early as possible, as this will enable us to plan for next year. There will be a series of transition sessions planned for our new students, these will include important information for starting school and will also play an important role in preparing your child for Prep.
These transition sessions will be held on:
- 29th October (9am-10am)
- 5th November (9am-10am)
- 12th November (9am-10am)
- 19th November (9am-10am)
If you have a child who is starting Prep in 2026, please contact the office on 4999 0333 for an enrolment pack and we will be in touch to book an enrolment interview. Alternatively, please call the office to book.
2026 Prep enrolments completed by Wednesday 19th November will be eligible for a free uniform pack inclusive of a school shirt and hat valued at $50.
We look forward to meeting with you soon.
Colour Explosion – Fun run
On Thursday 4th September our P&C will conduct the annual Colour Explosion Fun Run. This event has been extremely fun in the past and a great fundraiser for our school. All funds raised go to directly back to supporting the students at our school. Students also have the opportunity to select prizes for the appropriate level of fundraising they can do. Fundraising for our school is easy! Simply go to www.myprofilepage.com.au and click the register button to create a cybersafe, online profile page. Once you’ve created a parent account and profile page, you can share that around to family and friends to receive online donations. Please note that this is an online fundraiser only and all cash donations must be converted to an online donation before 05/09/2025.
Help our P&C fundraise today!
Parent/Teacher interviews
Berserker Street SS will be holding Parent/Teacher interviews from Tuesday 9th September to Thursday 18th September. We will again be using the online booking system so that organisation and management of bookings is quick and easy. These highly valued meetings will be held in your child’s classroom with each interview allocated 10 minutes. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher to discuss concerns and celebrations regarding your child’s learning. I encourage you to reach out if the time allocated does not suit to work towards a mutual agreement of availability between yourself and class teacher.
We are finalising booking dates for teacher availability for our next round of parent teacher interviews. We will communicate home soon when bookings can be made using our online service closer to the dates.
Absence notification:
At Berserker Street SS we are safe, and this includes children attending school or when they are absent. We need to know your child is safe when they have not attended. Thank you for reviewing our processes to report a student absence.
We remind all parents and caregivers to contact the school on (07) 49 990 333 or email admin@berserkerstreetss.eq.edu.au early in the morning if your child is going to be away or late for school so we can correctly record your child’s absence. An absence SMS notification is also sent out at 10am, thank you for replying with a reason for your child being away.
If your child is late or requires an early departure, they are required to go through our school front office. Early departures should be notified to our front office early in the day to reduce disruption to classroom learning.
Remember if you miss a call from us checking on your child’s absence, don’t forget to call back. If you have recently updated your personal contact information, we also appreciate you letting us know so we can ensure your child’s emergency contact information is current.
