PBL: Positive Behaviour for Learning Focus
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL):
Berserker Street SS will continue to be a PBL school in 2025. This will allow us to continue to explicitly teach and reward positive behaviour for learning with a whole school approach. Each week our students are taught a school wide lesson on a particular focus.
Our school expectations are:
- We are safe
- We are respectful
- We are responsible
- We are learners.
Better & Brighter PBL Week 4&5 Focus – We are safe!
At Berserker Street State School, we are safe!
- Hands off! Feet off!
- Right place! Right Time!
- Sticks and stones stay on the ground.
- I use the Berserker 5 when encountering negative interactions with peers.
- I wear my hat and shoes.
PBL Focus Week 6&7: Bullying…. No way
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence has a new name—Bullying No Way: National week of action. Bullying No Way Week, 11 to 15 August 2024, is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative and connects schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying. Over the next few weeks, we will educate our school community about Bullying and what bullying is not. This will support the work on the back of our We are safe focus and to use our Berserker 5 strategy.
Purple is the new hero colour representing Bullying No Way: National week of action and our commitment to standing against bullying.
The theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'
It takes courage to spark change.
Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied. While parents and teachers are there to support children and young people learn how to behave in a positive way.
In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted.
This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking students, schools, families and communities to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying.
Berserker Bucks
Students are rewarded for positive behaviour choices with our whole school universal rewards known as Berserker Bucks. Each term students have the opportunity to reach Berserker Bucks milestones with incentives on our rewards day for those who reach our Gold benchmark. Berserker Bucks will change colour each term and this year we have raised the bar with our students blowing expectations out of the water last year. Each Term students who receive their gold award will be eligible to participate in a better and brighter event. Term 2 collection has now completed with Term 3’s count starting today. This Term we have yellow berserker bucks worth 1 point and pink Berserker Bucks worth 5.
Term 3 PBL Better & Brighter Day – Sports Expo
Term 3 Gold reward – Mini-Olympics!
Bronze – 100 Berserker Bucks
Silver – 150 Berserker Bucks
Gold – 200 Berserker Bucks
A platinum award is presented to students at the end of Term 4 for those students who have received their Gold award in every term of the school year. This year our Platinum award will consist of an excursion to the movies with the cost covered by the school.
Children can also earn extra Berserker Bucks by using our school wide focus word of the week on Wednesday and Friday with school staff.
To promote further incentive the highest earning student in each cohort will be invited to a pizza party with the principal.
